Open shelving has been a trend now for a while and I have to tell you I love the concept, especially in small spaces. Closed cabinetry tends to look heavy and cumbersome in a small kitchen. Replacing them with an open shelving concept opens a space up and even better, it lets you show off your amazing collection of dishware. Bookcases with open shelving create an airy feel to a room, and lend themselves to the personality of a space. There are even creative DIY shelves that pack a punch of style.
Open shelves in the kitchen can be just about any size or style you need; from thick reclaimed wood to corner shelving, the options are limitless. Today, I rounded up a few of my favorites from Pinterest…..
The appeal of this shelf has to be the way it’s stylized. Mixing and matching of colors and pattern displayed against a white bead board wall and cottage style shelves.
The reclaimed wood says it all and creates a warm cottage feel. I love the simplicity of the natural wood and understated brackets.
Add a rustic look to the powder room with this creative open shelving unit hung from the ceiling with rope. I love how a rustic piece can look elegant with silver storage and display accents.
Take advantage of a kitchen corner with wide planked open shelving. The wood brackets add interest to what could be very simple shelving.
Isn’t this a fabulous way to repurpose old tables? A splash of color and a ton interest go a long way to creating an amazing office space.
These are perhaps my favorite. I love the idea of turning the brackets upside down making the details more prominent.
I love that each of these make use of vertical space and remain stylish. Sometimes shelving can look too utilitarian and boring. There is no reason they can’t add personality to a space. So the next time you find yourself with too little storage and too little floor space consider using your vertical space to display and store every thing from towels in the bath to detergent in the laundry room or your beautiful collection of dishware and serving pieces.
