In what seems like another lifetime ago, I used to arrange forklift-driving classes to get a bunch of guys who worked for me certified as drivers for a client. All the while, I would watch these sweaty blue-collar guys drive the fork lifts around, moving wood pallets from one place to another as they practiced maneuvering the loads through a parking lot. These industrial pieces were just that in my mind, hunks of wood that held things in warehouses but did little else. I never really thought about what happened to old pallets, until now.
Wood shipping pallets are the easiest to repurpose. They are inexpensive and sometime free. Their shape and construction offer a ton of versatility. Projects can as difficult as building a desk or as easy as creating a wine rack for the kitchen. It really seems to depend on your skill and confidence level as to what you decide to turn a pallet into.
It’s amazing what these old, in some cases broken down, wood forms can be morphed into, from outdoor sitting areas to shelves inside your home. Most of the time you would never know they were wood pallets. There are some amazingly unique upcycled wood pallet projects out there… These are just a few I think are cool.
Bring a little color to your backyard with these……
Or create a daybed for the porch…..
Then there’s this vertical garden….
